Politicians and sexual misconduct

Should politicians be made to account? eli-wong1

After the most explosive exposure of photos of former Health Minister Datuk Chua Soi Lek indulging in various sexual postures with a woman, that later led to his admission and resignation, the latest scandal which involved the nude photos of another politician, this time, a Selangor Executive Councillor Elizabeth Wong, has raised a lot of questions as to what constitutes acceptable behaviour and decency among our politicians.

Elizabeth who has since tearfully offered her resignation from public office, despite her fellow politicians in the Opposition jumping to her defence, calling it gutter politics of their political enemies, may have done the honorable thing, by offering to give up her Assembly seat and Exco post.

There has been an outpouring of public sympathies for her, especially from women, including those from the other side of the political divide. Is she a victim of naked politics?

In her own words “… I am not ashamed of my sexuality as a woman and as a single person. I have broken no law and I stand by the fundamental principle in a democracy that everyone has a right to privacy.”

The general consensus is that Malaysian politics has become a game of distractions and has also degenerated into a very distasteful standard. In Elizabeth’s case, she insists she has done no wrong yet she is said to have paid more attention to the issue of morality rather than on a gross intrusion of her privacy.

Should we hold all politicians, especially those who hold public posts, to account and to behave at all times, in addition to showing exemplary conduct?

Renunglah diri sendiri sebelum bercakap ttg org lain….

  4. Hilmi Malek, the man in the middle of police investigations into Elizabeth Wong’s scandalous pictures, could be charged in a Syariah Court for various offences if she admits to their relationship.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said although Wong was a non-Muslim, her testimony was valid in a Syariah Court.

“Any confession by Wong of a relationship can lead to her boyfriend being charged with zina (unlawful intercourse) or khalwat (close proximity) in a Syariah Court,” said Zahid.

Ahmad Zahid, who is in charge of Islamic affairs, said the Syariah Court had no jurisdiction to charge Wong as she is a non-Muslim.

However, if Wong confessed to having a sexual relationship with Hilmi, the punishment would be heavier for him, he added.

“On this matter, I agree that the man must be brought before the Syariah Court to clear his name and her name,” he said.

Selangor Religious Department public relations officer Mohd Hidayat Abd Rani said there needed to be sufficient evidence to charge Hilmi for khalwat.

“If the department’s officers caught them together during a raid or there is a witness who saw them together alone (in a room), only then can they be charged,” he said.

He said the department could only remind people not to behave in such a manner.

Civil and Syariah lawyer Akbar Din Abdul Kader. however, does not think that a confession from Wong would be a wise option.

“What happens if he denies the allegation or does not confess? She would then need to produce four witnesses,” he said.

“The Penal Code is the best form of action for her. Under the Penal Code, the scope of investigation is wider and the punishment heavier.”

Wong’s lawyer Derek Fernandez said she would take legal action if there was any violation of her rights in the publication of the pictures or other material.

“The police have informed us that they will prosecute anyone who publishes the pictures,” he said.

Politicians and sexual misconduct..Should politicians be made to account?

Its not only applied to politician.. everyone, and every human must be made responsible for his/her sexual ‘misconduct’ (as u mentioned it).. things become worse when you are a public figure or a leader.. well, we all make mistake.. sumtimes its bitter but you have to be responsible for each action that you made and face it like a man (or …woman..lol)..

The best gun to kill a politician in our country is just by revealing their personal life through video or porn pic. Which i think it’s a very cheap idea. That is why Malaysia is very unique since a politican will let go their post if they were found nude without their concern and breaching their privacy. What happen to the other corrupted politicians? They the one should quit from their post. right? But why it is not the other way round? need to think about this…
